Composer & Pianist
Ryoichi ANDO
安藤 諒一
Mainly plays secondoDrawn by the sight of his younger sister happily playing the piano, he began classical piano lessons in fourth grade. In sixth grade, Torii’s influence sparked his interest in other genres, which led to the start of their duo, and he went on to broaden his range into jazz, ballads, boogie-woogie, and more.
Drawing on his perfect pitch, he forged his own approach by playing a wide range of pieces in his own arrangements. During the duo’s hiatus he performed extensively as a soloist, developing distinctive techniques such as percussive playing not found in classical music and his signature “Super-Leap” bass — a bass line that leaps a tenth or more to deliver a deep, weighty low end.
In the duo he excels at accompaniment and obbligato, mainly taking the secondo part. Besides composing himself, he is the linchpin of their arranging: carrying forward the inspiration behind Torii’s original melodies, he brings each piece to completion with the versatile arranging skills and harmonic sense honed as a soloist. With delicacy within power and close attention to the sound of every note, he is the backbone of the stage.
